NEW! 2024-2025 Winter Farm Share
EDIT: Whoops! Just a few days after publishing this page, Anna and Michael found out they’re expecting their first child in January 2025! As you may guess, this is NOT going to be the winter to launch a new CSA program, so all plans are being postponed to the 2025-2026 season. Anyone who expresses interest now (via the link below) will be first on the list for the 2025-2026 winter farm share. Thanks for understanding!
Laird’s Corner Farm will “soft open” our farm share, AKA community supported agriculture (CSA), program in the autumn of 2024. We will start with a limited run of just five shares per 14-week session. One share = one box per week, containing 10-12 different items. Some will be cool-season veggies freshly harvested from the garden (think kale, parsley, carrots) and others will be crops grown earlier in the season and lovingly stored (think winter squash, onion, garlic). Here’s the rundown:
SESSION: | Session 1 – Prepaid | Session 1 – SNAP/EBT Only | Session 2 – Prepaid | Session 2 – SNAP/EBT Only |
COST: | $560 Due June 10, 2024 | $50/week Pay at pickup – SNAP Market Match | $560 Due July 1, 2024 | $50/week Pay at pickup – SNAP Market Match |
DATES: | October 24, 2024 – January 23, 2025 | October 27, 2024 – January 26, 2025 | February 5, 2025 – May 7, 2025 | February 8, 2025 – May 10, 2025 |
WEEKLY PICKUP: | WEDNESDAY On-farm | SATURDAY Port Angeles Farmers Market | WEDNESDAY On-farm | SATURDAY Port Angeles Farmers Market |
CSAs work by members investing in the season ahead of time, i.e. paying for their share before planting to help the farmer cover the costs of prepping, planting, tending, and protecting the crops as they grow. The Eat Local First website explains CSAs and their benefits nicely. Here at Laird’s Corner Farm, shareholders prepay in spring/summer for crops that will be (mostly) planted in summer and harvested in fall/winter (Session 1) and winter/spring (Session 2).
It’s crucial for us that our CSA be accessible for everyone regardless of financial means. Unfortunately, SNAP/EBT benefits can’t be used to prepay for food. Our solution: those paying with SNAP/EBT can pick up their weekly box from our stand at the Port Angeles Farmers Market for $50 per box, paid at pickup. With the SNAP Market Match program, your money will be matched dollar-for-dollar, and your box will only actually cost $25/week of your SNAP benefits. We couldn’t be more excited by this plan!
In early June, we will email a signup link to all those who’ve expressed an interest, and the first five people to sign up will get in.
